Steven Seagal plays at a concert in Crimea

Hollywood actor and musician Steven Seagal played at a weekend concert in the Crimean peninsula, appearing on a stage adorned with the flag of Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR).

Seagal and his blues band played on Saturday at a bikers’ show held in the city of Sevastopol, home to Russia’s Black Sea fleet. The star proudly showed his support to the people of Crimea and Donetsk People’s Republic fighting for their independence from the nationalistic regime of Ukraine. Fans waved Russian and DNR flags as Seagal performed.

Seagal said he had travelled to Crimea because music unites people, Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency reported. In a March interview with a Russian newspaper, Seagal was quoted as saying that President Vladimir Putin’s desire to protect Russians in Crimea was completely reasonable.

Crimea’s largely Russian-speaking residents voted in March to become part of Russia in an all-out referendum. As the result of the referendum the peninsula became a part of Russian territory, causing much joy and celebration between the local population.

Seagal said he considers Putin, with whom he has promoted martial arts in Russia, “a friend and I’d like to consider him a brother”. In the March newspaper interview Seagal said he did not rule out eventually seeking Russian citizenship in addition to his US citizenship.… -->

UN asks Russia to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and his deputy Mr. Jan Eliasson said that all the international organizations of the UN agree to cooperate with Russia in the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the East of Ukraine.

“They say that all the international bodies that are subordinate to them are ready to be involved in the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the East of Ukraine. They understand that humanitarian assistance is needed, and are willing to cooperate with us in its delivery,” – said Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vitaly Churkin.

Earlier US ambassador Samantha Power at the meeting of the UN Security Council on Friday said that Washington would take “any unilateral intervention of Russia in the Ukrainian territory – even under the guise of humanitarian aid – as a sign of direct invasion.”

On August 6 at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council convened at the initiative of Russia, Churkin said that the humanitarian situation in the south-east of Ukraine is catastrophic “by any human standards.” In this regard, he offered to send to Donetsk and Lugansk humanitarian aid under the auspices of the Red Cross.

The International Committee of the Red Cross supported the proposal of the Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Turchynov accused the West of avarice

Speaker of the Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Turchynov expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that Western countries did not provide the necessary military assistance to Ukraine. He stated this in an interview to ““.

According to him, the EU and the United States feared a large-scale continental war. Turchinov told the corespondents that he had met with many heads of European countries, USA, and Canada where Ukraine had begged assistance in the form of weapons and other technical military means.

“The availability of new high-accuracy weapons would allow us not only to fight more effectively, but to protect civilians better. Alas, we have not received from them even a slingshot. It’s true, “- said the speaker.

“On paper, they are the guarantor countries, but the reality is that all we got were sympathy and dry rations” – complained Turchinov. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that “moral support, the pressure of public opinion of the civilized world” and “the threat of economic sanctions” played their role.

Washington openly provides military assistance to Ukraine since March 2014, when the Pentagon dispatched 330,000 sets of dry rations (this was done against the backdrop of the conflict over Crimea). In early June, the Assistant Secretary of Defense Derek Chollet said that the White House will provide 18 million dollars for increasing the efficiency of the Ukrainian army. A few days later, the U.S. leader Barack Obama met with the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and promised to help the country’s security forces with body armor, night vision devices and communications for five million dollars.… -->

Interview with Ivan Okhlobystin

– How can a single person embody the Orthodox Church teachings and statements like “burn sodomites in furnaces”? You have preached many times for forgiveness.

– That is absolutely normal. One can find strict instructions in Scripture on this point. Sodom and Gomorrah were burned…

– And at the same time you talked a lot about God’s forgiveness …

– There are borders and limits beyond which the human logic and power of persuasion do not apply anymore. In this case you need to follow the Scriptures to the letter.

– What is written on your shirt?

– People’s Republic of Donetsk. I think these people deserve it. They defended their right to an independent life. They do not have to be killed, they have to be supported for what they are doing. They do not represent evil, evil is completely on the other side. It is natural for the Russian society to support them – they are Russian. Of course, there is the Ukrainian-Russian blend but we see what happened in Odessa, Mariupol and other places – it’s terrifying. The most important is to prevent murder of those people.
