Messageboxes pop-up behind applications

Hi!

Warning newbie question!

Installed RH 5.1 out of the box, and using AfterStep which where
bundled with RH 5.1. 

As the subjct says, in Xemacs and Netscape the message-boxes 
'pop-up' behind the application, so I have to minimize or move 
the application to respond to the messages-boxes. 

I've (at least tried) to look in tha docs' but I can't find or
don't know what to look for to fix this
