If you (can) use procmail, a recipe like this will take care of duplicate=
s:
:0 Whc: msgid.lock
| formail -D 32768 ${MAILDIR}/msgid.cache
This will discard duplicates, to keep them you can add something like thi=
s
(assuminmg an mh-style mailbox) right after the above:
:0 a:
| ${RCVSTORE} -nounseen +duplicates
