animated gifs

I saw in the archives there was a question about whether AS supports animated
gifs. The answer was no...

But what does it mean that AS doesn't support them? Does that mean that I can't
have the wharf swallow an Xanim window showing an animated gif? I've tried it
but maybe I just didn't do it right? Can the wharf show any kind of animation?
