NFS, afterstep, and multiple OS's

hi,
i run afterstep at work, where i have an ultra sparc, and a pc.  we
mount our home directories over nfs.  when the problem arises, is when i
want different configurations between the solaris, and the linux
version.  

what is the best way to deal with this type of situation?
