troubles still compiling beta3....

Hi,
I'm still having trouble compiling 1.5beta3 w/ the patches.
I'm running FreeBSD and the problem seems to be w/ the configure script
when it tests for -ljpeg. FreeBSD names the shared libraries a little
differently than the Linux distributions do. Now normally I'd just patch
it to look for the right one, but I am a complete newbie to configure
scripts and I don't know the exact syntax to change it so it works and the
little bit I've done w/ the "trial and error" method doesn't seem to be
getting me anywhere.
Here's the output of ldconfig and a ls -l of /usr/local/lib/libjpeg*:
peloton: {19} ldconfig -r | grep jpeg
57:-ljpeg.9.0 => /usr/local/lib/libjpeg.so.9.0
peloton: {20} ll /usr/local/lib/libjp*
-rw-r--r-- 1 bin bin 124798 May 14 12:22 /usr/local/lib/libjpeg.a
-rwxr-xr-x 1 bin bin 457 May 14 12:22 /usr/local/lib/libjpeg.la
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root wheel 14 May 14 12:22 /usr/local/lib/libjpeg.so
-> libjpeg.so.9.0
-rwxr-xr-x 1 bin bin 134590 May 14 12:22
/usr/local/lib/libjpeg.so.9.0
I have jpeg-6b installed (which is the latest greatest as far as I know).
When jpeg isn't found it appears to leave an empty define in configure and
the make bombs out w/ "bad line in configure, line 20."
If someone could suggest a way to help me get the configure script to find
this I'd sure appreciate it.
Brett
