I think I understand what's wrong. All the init files are in the
/usr/share/afterstep directory. You want to change autoexec so you edit a
file in your ~GNUStep/Library/AfterStep directory. Are you only adding what
you want different to THAT file? If AS finds a file in the ~G/L/A/ directory
then it won't even look at the /u/s/as/ directory. So you should copy the
file from /u/s/as/ to ~G/L/A/ and then modify it.
