Also, be sure you .xsession is executable. This drove me nuts until I figur=

Dunno what "Special RH features" you're refering to, but the files you're
probably thinking of are in /etc/X11/xdm and /etc/X11/xinit.
/etc/X11/xdm/Xsession specifically checks for a ~/.xsession.
