Pasting text into current window

Excuse me if this isn't strictly Afterstep specific..

I need to setup a keypress (Shift-F12, whatever..) that reads a file and
then pastes the contents into the currently active window. (Into the
keyboard buffer for that window i guess...)

I figure this could be done in the keybindings in the feel files, but i'm
not sure how to go about it, or if external utils are needed.
