A bit more on the existence of this problem on
other platforms. Two independent people confirmed
that the bug occurs in fvwm on PC too.
I would make a wild guess that this bug is in
either X11 code or the code common to both fvwm
and AfterStep.
In this respect: what is the code common to
fvwm2 and Afterstep?

Wrong. I never use the NumLock key. Never on
my PC and never on my Sun. Sorry, it does not
have to do anything with the NumLock.
