Not killing processes

I just installed afterstep, and finally got it (mostly) configure to my
liking. After running it for a couple of days (re-starting it often with
new configs) I notice that it doesn't seem to shut down apps properly,
most notably netscape. TWhen it shuts, it leaves netscape running as a
zombie, taking up memory, burying my swap partition, and the remains of a
.lock file lying around.
Is there a fix for this? I'm running the latest version (1.4.5.55N ?).
WI don't have the problem with fvwm95 - it shuts down ok then.
One other thing: I was running xiterm - the default afterstep xterm - and
it
caused afterstep to run as slow as a brown dog with three legs. (even with
no -pixmap in xiterm). Running nxterm instead improves the performance
about 2000%. Is this a known problem with xiterm? I'd like to give it a
fair shake but not if it's gonna slow me down that much.
TIA,
Simon.
