Between 1.4.4 and 1.4.5.55N6, the compile time flag that controlled this
behavior was turned off by default - if you didn't edit the configuration.h
file before making, you would have no window state saved between sessions.

Solution: recompile the code, and make this change before the make step.

Suggestion: This should, obviously, be a Runtime flag.  As its 
functions deosn't seem to depend on compiler depancacy (unlike
stuff like Shaped windows), I see no reason why it can't be specified
elsewhere.
