What about .workspace_state?

Hello all

I'm working to update the FAQ, & I've not yet seen a real answer to this
question.

It appears that several people are having trouble with the latest
versions, in that the workspace state is not being restored from session
to session.  Does anyone have any suggestion about what is happening?  I
know that the xiterms, &c., can all be invoked with their geometry in the
.xinitrc, but I thought the point of the updating feature was that it
wouldn't need to depend on the .xinitrc.  I haven't been able to find any
documentation as to why this should be a problem.  Any suggestions?
