It was always messed up in that way for me, so I would say it was more or
less working if this were all that was happening.

Also, I should point out that TkDesk (which I use infrequently) uses the
same program (showaudio) for its sound; and it works fine.  I'm not
getting any debug errors anywhere, either; I'm stumped!
