Start menu configuration

Hi,

Can someone tell me how to permanently alter the contents of the Start
menu? I want my own particular options in there but they inevitably get
overwritten.

Should I be editing /usr/share/afterstep/start ? There does not appear to
be anything of interest in my ~GNUstep directory...
