Trying to install Afterstep

Hello---

I just got introduced to the linux world a couple of weeks ago. Well, by
tinkering with it on my own using resources from the internet, I was able to
complete an installation of RedHat 5.0. Now, I'm trying to install Afterstep
1.45. I'm able to untar and all of that, but when I type "rpm -i <filename>"
it installs (or at least I think that it does) then when I start up x, I get a
message that says that there is no such file or directory. Am I installing it
right? And if so, what am I doing wrong when I start it up. I've been told
to add an .xinitrc file and add the line "exec afterstep" to it...but that
doesn't work either. Then when I delete that line, my original X won't start
up. And since I couldn't figure out how to fix that, I went ahead and
installed RH all over again. Needless to say, I've gotten pretty good at
installing RH. Now I just need to figure out how to install Afterstep. I
would appreciate any help that I could get. Thanks

Eric
