AfterStep 1.4.5.55N help

Hello all,
I can't seem to get my own backgrounds on 1.4.5.55N using the start
menu. I put the *.xpm files in the
~/GNUstep/Library/AfterStep/desktop/backgrounds dir and restarted
afterstep and they were not in the menu.
Any help?
