I'm interested in your patch (though my connect-errors doesn't have any
dumped stuff in it right now).
I've used both asmodem and wmppp and have experienced the disfunction you
mentioned. It happened to me because sometimes I use a second ppp for
masquerading and neither asmodem or wmppp 1.2 can be given an interface
other than ppp0. wmppp 1.3 (soon) is supposed to fix this.
