Well, I know _I_ can answer questions about that version, but that's a fat
lot of good.  I still get questions mailed to me about v 1.0.  And I doubt
very much that releasing a stable version will help this situation,
because lots of people will not upgrade.  I've had a lot of people chew
me out, for instance, for suggesting that they really need to replace v.
1.4.0, because of the huge memory leak that was in it.  They say, "But I
don't want to upgrade.  Can't you help me with this?"  In that case, I
can't, but lots of people lag behind, just because they have config files
that they don't ever want to touch again.  I'm happy enough to support
those "laggards": I can tell them what they're missing, but I know how
painful it is for someone unfamiliar with AS (and, for that matter, any
*NIX flavour) to upgrade.  (I get lots of abusive mail about that, too.)

Still, I see your point, and I'm in no position to argue against your
view, contributing (as I do) nothing.
