I was looking at the afterstep code. It looks like it attempts to start
another afterstep session for each display that you have. It detects the
right number of displays on mine (2), but what I think it does is it tries
to spawn another afterstep seesion using:

/bin/sh/ -c "afterstep -d :0.X -s &"

where X is the screen number. I couldn't get that to start from my
.xinitrc file, so I'm doubtful that it will work from within afterstep.
I'm not entirely sure about all of this, but I played around with the
source code for a while, and didn't get very far, but I think that there
must be a a bug in the way that it attempts to spawn off. When I commented
out the code that handles the spawning, it didn't just exit anymore, but
it launches just one afterstep session onto my main display :0.0. (which
is what I expected). So, there's definitely something fishy in the way it
is spawning processes. Anyways, who do I talk to about this?
