as apps

I'm curious. What would you all think of splitting the AS apps up into
separate *.tar.gz's? I'm not sure what the rationale is for having them
in one big package - is it so people can just make them all at once? If
so, WM's method is better, IMO. Just provide each app by itself and let
the user decide if they want it.
Also, we currently have a problem, since the APPS are split from the main
tarball. asmail wants to find its config in the ~/G/L/A dir, but the
user may have changed that dir to something else when configuring AS.
This problem would affect any applet that wants its own configuration
file, or wants to read one of the other AS config files. I still support
breaking up the apps tarball, but it would require some way of detecting
the AS config dir. Therefore I suggest for each applet that wants a
config, it should check:
1. $AFTERSTEP_HOME/applet
2. ~/GNUstep/Library/AfterStep/applet
3. ~/.applet
The AFTERSTEP_HOME environment variable would provide an easy way of
telling apps where AfterStep keeps its config files.
In any case, I think we should split up the apps, or merge them back
into the main AS tarball.
Comments?
