Help with function keys under solaris

I complied the latest stable release of afterstep and aterm and
installed them on a ultrasparc2 running solaris 8. I seem to have
problems with using the function keys and some other special keys on my
keyboard.
Under aterm , the funcion keys F1-F12 beep , print a number and then
print the sign '~'. I get similar problems with the PgUp/PgDn/Home/End
keys (They do not print a number). Also there are some special keys on
my keyboard like Copy/Paste/Cut etc. which give similar results to the
function keys under aterm. All these keys function correctly under xterm
and dtterm.
In addition the PgUp/PgDn/Home/End keys stoped working in Nedit or gvim
after installing afterstep (the special keys do work in the editors).
Another thing I noticed (might be unrelated) is that when I start aterm
, in the shell from which I start atrem , I get the following message:
'aterm: input method doesn't support my preedit type'
and the first line in the new aterm is:
'tcsh: using dumb terminal settings.'
Any help and suggestions will be very welcome.
