Heh, stop using outdated debian distro and upgrade your libgif/libungif.
The one you have now is something dated several years back and belived 
to be largely extinct.

I admit I ought to add check for it into configure script for that, but 
I hardly have a motivation, so if you don't mind (and I know you as 
being capable of this :) - send me a patch.
