hiding the wharf

i'm trying to set up a keyboard shortcut to show/hide the wharf (and pager)
now, i've edited my feel file to add the shortcut, but having looked in
the manpages i can't find out how to associate the command with a
specific window.
the shortcut works fine, after a fashion; it shades the currently
focused window, and successfully hides the wharf (and/or pager), but
only if i mouseover it first, which is not the effect i'm looking for.
so this is my question; how can i specify the target for a window
manager operation, rather than have it operate on the current window?
or is it not possible?
please please please, etc. ;-)
