Yep.  Fading is a nifty little configuration option.  Here is what my
system claims:
1:13pm> aterm -help

Usage v0.3.6 :(XPM,no backspace,no delete,transparency,fading,NeXT
scrollbar,.Xdefaults)

Notice the no backspace/delete options?  I think that's what tells it to
grab/not grab the keymappings and may be something for you to examine with
your first original question...
