afterstep won't start

Hi all:

my afterstep won't start!!! I disabled openwin (by removed a part of script in
.profile) and also created very simple .xinitrc file (exec
/usr/local/bin/afterstep). Once I got in my account and I started "xinit", I
just saw default sun welcom logo and then died. Could anyone help me on this?
