I didn't have any problems with that for 1.7.161, so I doubt it
was the configure script causing grief for me.
I ended up downloading a fresh tarball of the 1.7.164 sources, and
that seems to configure and compile cleanly, haven't tried installing
or running yet. I wonder what it was in the 3 patches that I applied
that messed things up? Strange. But the problem is gone now.
