To me, it seems that approach b seems to be the best choice. Smaller
resource hogging and faster moving/resizing would definitely make it
worth it. (And titlebars that are not the same size as the window sounds
like a cool enhancement. :)
What compatibility issues besides BorderWidth would there be? (or is that
a little hard to tell this early?)
