Yes, as long as you remember to remove all references to AS in your X
start-up files, as well.  It's also a good idea to remove your ~/G/L/A
directory.

If you want to upgrade, though, when you compile from source, you can
usually just install over the old binaries.  What you _must_ do is
remove/rename your ~/G/L/A directory tree.
