There is the bug in XFree86 shaped windows code that is causing this
sort of crashes.
That happense when two applications with shaped windows are overlapping
each other - usually when you use applets like ascd, asclock etc.

To avoid this problem swallow them in different wharfs and wait for each wharf
to start
in autoexec file like so :
Wait "I"   Wharf

or try adding -geometry setting in wharf configuration file to command lines
that start those
apps and specify it so that they start in different places.
