gnome and AfterStep

hey gang,

i have a question.  i'm using Red Hat 6.0 and the AS that was
distributed with that package.  lately when i log in it takes forever
for AS and gnome to start.  when it finally does start there's always a
core file in my home directory (that is related to the gnome
gen_util_applet) and i can no longer use gnome's logout.  this is a big
hassel and i'd rather not re-install.

anyone have any idea why this is happening and how i can resolve the
problem?
