where did my look/feel/pictures go?

hi

i just upgraded from 1.6.10 to 1.7.90 (SuSE 6, haven't applied any 1.7
patches yet) and have xpm's in both
/usr/local/share/afterstep/backgrounds/ and ~/G/L/A/backgrounds/ and yet
even after "update all", "update start menu" and restarting AS, the start
menu folders for looks, feels, and pictures are empty! other files in my
~/G/L/A/ folder such as wharf are working fine, permissions and ownerships
look cool... i even went so far as to create a pictures/ directory in case
i'd missed something, but to no avail. is this something fixed in one of
the patches, or am i missing something obvious?
