GTK Themes

Bit off topic i suppose, but anyway...

How do i make GTK themes work? I've read the website and it says
"Open the GNOME control panel and pick a theme". But i don't have gnome...
(and i don't want to install it either)

And has anyone else noticed that *.themes.org (gtk, afterstep ...) is acting
weird? Earlier today it wouldn't let me in (No route to host) and now
i get a nice blank page (in Lynx it says there's bad html).
