Why it matters what you post here

I can tell you why this is important.
I try, to the best of my ability, to offer support on this list. I know
that members of the development team, and several others, also do the
same. Most of those people are, in fact, rather better at it than I am;
but all of us spend a considerable amount of time doing so.
We, each of us, has limited time. And not all of it is dedicated to AS: I
work full time, still have a dissertation to write, and try to support AS
as much as I can. So, lots of off-topic or vague posts cause a
significant loss of time which could be otherwise productive. The time I
spend reading off-topic posts, for instance, could be dedicated to fixing
the FAQ in a way that I'd be less ashamed of.
My contribution to AS is insignificant; but consider that those who really
work on the project are spending time that could be used improving AS
reading & sometimes answering questions completely urelated to AS.
So, that's why it matters.
