Pager

Isn't there some way I can prevent Pager from copying my background file
to <desk>_background in the non-configurable directory? I have limited
disk space available so I really only want one copy of every file in my
home directory.
I like being able to switch backdrops instantly, which I can't do if I
set the PagerDesktopImage to something other than the standard
~/G/L/A/non-config/<desk>_background file. At the moment I've set up a
symbolic link from my <desk>_background files pointing to the actual jpeg
in my ~/G/L/A/backgrounds directory, but if I use the startmenu to change
background pixmaps I'm back to square one as the link will be overwritten.
I have tried using asetroot but the output is noticably grainier. Anyone
know how to get around this?
Thanks,
Graeme.
