A fairly easy way to do this is to:
killall afterstep
... which sends a SIGHUP to AfterStep, telling it to shut down in the
same way it would have if a menu item bound to the Quit function had
been chosen.
In AfterStep 1.7.58 and later, ascommand.pl can be used:
ascommand.pl Quit
