There is a nice tool called "watch". If you run like this:
watch ps
it will run 'ps' every two seconds and keep the screen
updated. It quits when you press ctrl-c
So your line will be:
*Wharf ps Gear.xpm Exec "-" aterm -tr -e watch ps au &
