cd ~/GNUstep/Library/AfterStep/start
rm -r Screen_savers Windows 0_nop 3_nop 6_xterm 7_rxvt 1_screensaver

If that doesn't work, make sure you compiled AS with --disable-fixeditems.  
This is the default, unless you got a RedHat rpm.
