A couple of Japanese fonts comes from x11r6.x distribution.
Check the direcotry like /usr/X11R6/fonts/misc, you should
have fonts like jiskan16.pcf.
I usually use kterm to view Japanese stuff. kterm works fine
with pine for e-mail. And I believe with lynx, too.
I don't know how you can japanize AfterStep. I believe that
you can do that.

might help to find Japanese applications.
