	You must not have read the entire line in the INSTALL/README file,
it is shown below as a refresher:

	vi Imakefile ; ./configure ; xmkmf ; make Makefiles ; make ;
	su root -c "make install ; make install.man" ; 
	echo afterstep > ~/.xinitrc; startx
