Not on my computer it can't.

The error I get is: Save failed: /tmp/crow.xpm.  As you can see, an
extremely intuitive and useful error message.  :-)

Thank you for everyone's responses.  I found xv and used it ... worked
like a dream ... though it tool me a while to figure out that the Save
button actually functioned just like Save As  :-) ... I was hunting
round for that Save As option for quite a while.  :-)
