Unless you built that version yourself, there's nothing nice you can do
about it.  What I do tho' is I make the changes then remove the write
permissions to directories that I changed.  Next time I boot up, it is
not possible for my changes to be overwritten... mwahahahhahah!!! 
However, if you make subsequent changes, you have to do more fiddling,
and, unless you're really careful, you could end up losing something.
