But I have the latest XFree distribution (3.3.2) and Red Hat 5.0 and
5.1 so I also have MetroX. I didn't know that 5.1 wasn't bundled with
MetroX though. I bought 5.1 from linuxcenter for $1.95 so all commercial
programs had been removed, so to speak.

The problem I had with XFree is the X-server XF_SVGA, which contains
Matrox support *among* other things as standard SVGA and VGA support.
So when I tried to start X with startx -- -bpp 32 it failed and
defaulted to 320x200x4. I could never figure out how to make the
XF86Config-file to accept that I had a Matrox in my machine and not a
VGA-card so I switched to MetroX instead. I will probably buy
Accelerated-X from Xi Graphics later as I used that server in CDE and
was very satisfied with it. I don't think version 2.1 of Accelerated-X
is compatible with Red Hat 5.1 (glibc, you know).

But this is a list about AfterStep so any comments about X-servers in
general, please send mail to me and not the list.
