Seeing that your mailer is Microsoft Outlook saddens me very deeply.
Especially since I'm at work and have to use Windows as well.
In any case, in order to get XFree86 to start AfterStep automatically,
first make sure you have compiled and installed AfterStep (and that the
binary is in a directory in your path). Step two, edit a file in your home
directory (or if it doesn't exist, create it) called .xinitrc (note the
preceding dot). In .xinitrc you need 1 line.
afterstep
Make sure that you DO NOT run AfterStep in the background (i.e. &) because
then XFree86 will not stay up. Third step, run startx.
That's it!
