Which Version?

Ok, I have had problems installing Afterstep 1.4 in the past but now I
am going to start over. I have had many of my friends tell me that
version 1.0 is the better (and easier) way to go.  I have also had a few
people tell me that version 1.4 is a lot nicer and I should go with
that. Anyway I am stuck here, any suggestions on which Afterstep version
to choose would be greatly appreciated.
