I disagree on the relevance issue, I think it may very well be relevant.
Ie, there may be a symbol in XFree86's Xext library which Afterstep uses,
but is absent from AcceleratedX's libraries.

Rick - try reinstalling the XFree86-libs package from your Linux
distribution (that SHOULD peacefully coexist with AccelX), and see if that
fixes the problem.  Let us know.
