start menu

I'm running redhat 5.1 on my PC and I have added an extra menu option on
my start menu. However when I boot up my machine in the morning my menu
option disappears. It seems that my option which I set in the start
directory gets deleted. The start directory I use is as follows:

home ~/GNUstep/Library/AfterStep/start/

How can I solve this problem.
