All appearance changes to windows are controlled through the look (and, in
a few cases, a corresponding change in the feel) files.  If you look at
the latest faq, there's a section on looks & feels (and especially tilebar
buttons) which will point you in the right direction.  Other than that,
it's simply a matter of reading the comments in the look and feel files.
Also check out the "help" pages mentioned in the FAQ.
