ok, I hope you mean that as the very last command in your .xinitrc, it
says "exec afterstep", is that what you mean? but you should have as well
some command to bring up some kinda xterms when you start X, such as:

nxterm -bg black -fg wheat -geometry 80x30+4+22 -n 'Ohaton' &
nxterm -bg black -fg wheat -geometry 80x28+4+450 -n 'root' &
and so on... then you'd have that last line like I said above

See? since you never had any xterms opened up in the first place, and you
log out just the same, that gets saved to your .workspace_state. change
it to:

Exec	"I"	.xinitrc	(notice there's no 'sh'; at least that
				for me)

you might wanna pick up a linux book, such as "Runnign Linux" by O'Reilley
& Associates if you haven't done so already...just a suggestion :) Hope
that helps though and if it doesn't, then I'm sorry for you misfortune of
getting advice from an AS novice such as myself...hopefully the gurus will
step in and correct my shortcomings	Have fun!
