newbie questions!

Hi !

Today I began using AfterStep (v1.4.5.55N) and fiddled
around with its configuration.

Right now I have two questions:

1) Since v1.4 all configuration is done via the files
   in GNUstep/Library/AfterStep/* files. Though is 
   ~/.steprc still needed?  Or can I forget about it?
   If not, what kind of config-items should be put in
   steprc?

2) I removed and edited some items in the start directory.
   But when I restart AS, I don't see any changes.
   For a test I even modified the start directory in the
   /usr/share/afterstep tree, but still no changes..
   Any ideas?  What did I miss?
